About the Project:

New Constructions

These photographs mark a return to making still life constructions; I now use a digital camera rather than a 4 x 5 film camera.  For each of these images, I began with a bricolage of painted backdrops, everyday materials and a detailed drawing on shrink film; I lit the assemblage and took a photograph. I like working in this way, using light as my primary medium, and the resulting photographic print preserves the illusion created.

At the heart of each image is juxtaposition between disparate forms where meaning is multi-layered and intentionally left open ended. While themes vary my objective is to explore ideas through my own selections and decisions, document my own ruminations, and at the same time create poetic statements that observers’ may assign significance based on the own identities and experiences.
